MILWAUKEE - It wasnt the bounce-back performance they expected, but it was the one they needed. Coming off a disappointing loss, their first of the young season in Atlanta 24 hours earlier, the Raptors responded with a gritty victory and one they can be proud of despite shooting just 40 per cent from the field. Rudy Gay, like the rest of his team, was not perfect, but delivered on his promise to be better after turning in one of his worst outings as a Raptor on Friday. "We learned from last night," said Gay, the Raptors leading scorer, who had a career night rebounding the ball in Torontos 97-90 win over the Bucks Saturday. "It shows how resilient we are. We just picked it up and still got the win, even if it wasnt pretty." In terms of offensive efficiency, it wasnt pretty. Gay, fresh off a 6-for-23 shooting night, shot just 4-of-14 from the floor. DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry also struggled, each shooting 5-for-14, while Jonas Valanciunas was 3-of-8 in just 16 minutes. "I mean, myself, I cant remember the last time I knocked down a shot personally," Gay joked after the game. Sedin appeared to be moving his fingers, but there was no immediate update on his status. Byron was assessed a five-minute penalty for boarding and a game misconduct. The team said Sedin was taken in stable condition to hospital to undergo further evaluation. "He exhibited signs of movement to his extremities and showed improvement from initially being hit," the statement read. "No assessment will be made until completion of this evaluation." Before the hockey town that Wayne Gretzky built hosted its first outdoor game at Dodger Stadium, The Great One made a rare Hollywood move by going on "Conan" to promote it. In an 11-minute interview on the late-night show with host Conan OBrien, Gretzky reflected on his trade from the Edmonton Oilers to the Los Angeles Kings, his guest appearance on "Saturday Night Live" and several aspects of his on-ice playing career. Beyond all his records and his place in hockey history, Gretzkys Hollywood persona wouldnt have been as pronounced if it were not for that trade 25 1/2 years ago. "It was hard for especially people in Edmonton because they werent just fans, they were friends of mine. A lot of the people that go to all the games, I knew from all the years of being in Edmonton," Gretzky said of the deal. "So it was difficult for everyone. But you look back at it now and everything happens for a reason and we love it here in L.A. and the NHL is thriving here and everyone seems to be doing OK." The Oilers won their fifth Stanley Cup in 1990 without Gretzky and made it to the final in 2006 before losing to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Kings made it to the final in 1993 with Gretzky before losing to the Montreal Canadiens, then won their first title in franchise history in 2012. "I had a coach when I was 14 years old that said: Go watch this guy Bobby Clarke play and watch how he plays. Hes not very big, hes smart, he passes the puck and he plays sort of from the corner and a little bit behind the net," Gretzky recalled. "So at the age of 14 I started watching him day in and day out. "He probably had the most influence on my career as far as learning how to play the game and the style of game that I played. I learned to play behind the net, and when I started doing that, it was so unique. Nobody had ever tried to defend that. And so I was able to really master it and become really good at it, and that was sort of my forte." Hockey sense, Gretzky said, was also a strength. Singing, not so much. OBrien mentioned that the first time he met Gretzky came in 1989 on the set of "Saturday Night Live." Although Gretzky originally turned down the appearance, his wife, Janet, accepted for him. On the show, Gretzky had to sing a song called "Waikiki Hockey," despite being, in his words, "tone deaf." "The funny part of the scene was they had this little piece of meat and I was sort of supposed to hit it," Gretzky said. "And I hit it right into a garbage can. I think everybody was shocked that I put it in the garbage can. It was just completely by accident." OBrien, who served as an extra in that scene 25 years ago, joked that "Everyone thought, He is the great one, he can fire meat at will." HOUSTON -- LaMarcus Aldridges son JJ, who turned 5 on Wednesday, texted him after the Portland Trail Blazers playoff win and told him he looked like Spider-Man on one of his dunks. To the Houston Rockets the Portland star probably looked like a superhero on more than just that one play. Aldridge continued his dominance against the Rockets, scoring 43 points to lift the Trail Blazers to a 112-105 victory and a 2-0 lead in the first-round playoff series. Aldridge has made the most of the return to his home state and put the Trail Blazers in control heading home for Game 3 in Portland on Friday. The former University of Texas star who grew up in Dallas laughed heartily and said maybe when asked if hed rather stay in the Lone Star state after the way hes played in the first two games. "(Leading) 2-0 going home feels great, but its not over," he said. "Were going to stay hungry, stay humble and go home and try to duplicate the same (success)." CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Andy Dalton is relieved. So are the Cincinnati Bengals. Everyone one was all smiles around Bengals camp on Monday when the team made Dalton one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. Dalton signed a six-year extension, but the financial terms were not released. According to multiple reports, the deal is worth up to $115 million. Buycks scored a game-high 28 points on 12-for-19 shooting from the field March 5 against the Texas Legends. This was Buycks second stint in the NBA D-League this season. The only other option is to draw back the golf ball, and you would think - in terms of cost - it would be more common sense to limit how far the ball goes than it would to have to buy land to extend tees.
